Description:
Waistcoat with burgundy velvet front panels; small rolled collar dropped into long ovoid lapels over five velvet cover buttons; natural linen lining; black silk twill back panel; black silk belt and two pronged metal buckle at lower back and black ribbon ties above to cinch garment.
Gallery Label:
This waistcoat belonged to Francis Robert Rives, Esq., father of the donor. Mr. Rives was the Secretary of the Legation in London from 1842 to 1844, a post appointed by President John Tyler.
