Oval porcelain tureen with reeded entwined handles, cover with flower and leaf knop, and stand, decorated with pencilled trellis diaper and butterfly border ("Fitzhugh" pattern); on each side of tureen and cover and at center of stand is a roundel with spear and post border containing the initial "H".
This piece is part of a dinner service given as a wedding gift to John Hone II and Miss Marie Antoinette Kane (m. 1818). He was the nephew of Philip Hone (1780-1851), the prominent New York businessman, politican, and diarist.
