Porcelain tureen with reeded strap handles terminating in molded berries and branches; decorated in polychrome enamels with floral sprays and floral vine entwining iron red and gold band; band of blue enamel with gold stars around rim; at center of each side is a shield with initials.
This set was made for Lewis Pintard (1732-1818), the uncle of the Historical Society's founder, John Pintard. Lewis Pintard was a merchant and a commissioner of prisoners. The plates passed to Martha "Patty" Pintard and by succession to Mary Stevens Baird.
