Description: 
Silver and 18k gold tray and decanter set includes circular flat-bottomed tray with stepped convex rim and scalloped edge; and circular crystal jug-type decanter and stopper with silver and 18k gold mounts. Face and rim of tray are decorated with applied and chased foliage and 18 k gold lettering spelling out "Welcome/to/Woodbine" and "FVB/1855/May 29/1905". Center of tray also has engraved depiction of Hudson River estate Woodbine with surrounding landscape. Decanter mount has silver octagonal frieze at base and is framed with 18k gold base-band and is ornamented with 18 k gold lettering "1855/May 29/1905". Decanter mount extends from base frieze to neck with naturalistic openwork basket of trailing woodbine leaves and vines accented with 18k gold. Cap of stopper is mounted with silver with 18 k gold accents.

This silver and 18K gold tray and decanter belonged to Frank Vincent Burton (1855-1922) and depict his Hudson River estate Woodbine, completed in 1905. A prominent New York merchant, Burton was a participant in the legendary 1903 Billings dinner, where guests dined on horseback at Louis Sherry's celebrated Fifth Avenue restaurant.
