Description: 
Wrought and cast silver presentation tray; scalloped, ovoid tray with raised sides and an applied, cast beaded band with scrolled cartouche motifs applied around the rim; two cast, squared strap handles with beaded bands and foliate scroll motifs; engraved in the center, "Presented to/ Andrew Warner/ by the / American Art Union/ January 1st.. 1849" in script; makers' marks stamped on the underside of the tray.

This salver and matching pair of pitchers were presented by the American Art Union to committee member Andrew Warner (father of the donor) on January 1, 1849. The organization was established in New York in 1842 to promote art patronage.
