Description:
Molded pearlware teapot with dark blue transfer print of Lafayette at Franklin's tomb; overall rectangular shape with flaring top, projecting molded rib, bulbous middle, and rectangular foot; scrolling strap handle and S-shaped paneled spout; lid, spout, handle, and area above rib transfer-printed with floral decoration; bulbous section (both sides) transfer printed with mourning scene of man (Lafayette) at tomb marked "FRANKLIN"; temple, ship, and rising sun in distance. Domed rectangular lid with pointed rectangular finial; vent hole.
Gallery Label:
Fanciful tombs and grave sites of American heroes were popular subjects on historic blue Staffordshire. This printed image is exactly the same as another Enoch Wood & Sons view of Lafayette mourning Washington, except the name on the tomb is changed.
