Description: 
Sword with slightly curved, single-edged steel blade with etched decoration on obverse and reverse; gilded brass half-basket hilt with openwork flower and scroll design incorporating initials "US" on obverse side and quillon with globular finial with incised scroll motif; silver grip with molded ridges wrapped with twisted wire; helmet-shaped pommel with leaf border and leaf design incised on top; maroon silk knit sash with a large tassel at either end tied to knuckle-bow; leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts consisting of upper and middle bands with carrying rings and drag, all with engraved designs (scabbard cannot be removed from sword).
