This portrait was copied by the baroness from an uninscribed watercolor and chalk study (6 3/8 x 8 1/4) by Pavel Petrovich Svinin (1787/8-1839), a Russian artist who served as secretary to the Russian consul-general in the United States from 1811 to 1813, in the Drawings Department, Metropolitan Museum of Art.
