Sash w/badge in case: Order of the Crown of Belgium
Badge on ribbon and plaque in a case. Gilt metal and white enamel Maltese Cross suspended from a green enamel laurel and oak leaf wreath. Central obverse disc has a gold crown on a blue enamel background, reverse has a monogrammed “L” on a blue enamel background. The medal is suspended from a red grosgrain ribbon. Plaque is a faceted five-armed white Maltese asterisk with golden rays between the arms, the central obverse disc has a gold crown on a blue enamel background.
The Order of the Crown was established on October 15, 1897 by King Leopold II of Belgium to recognize heroic deeds and distinguished service achieved for service in the Congo Free State. In 1908, the Order of the Crown was made a national decoration of Belgium. Today, the Order is awarded more generally for services rendered to the Belgian state.
