Silver baby rattle with floral design on bulbous handle; floral design is engraved; silversmith's hallmark on handle.

Children's rattles were often worn around their necks, suspended from ribbons or chains, to keep them from being damaged. Made of silver or gold, the rattles were fitted with a whistle at one end, a smooth piece of coral suitable for teething, and any number of bells to ring.
