Catherine Anna Remsen was the second daughter of Henry Remsen and Elizabeth De Peyster (Remsen) of New York. She married Frederick Schuchardt (1805-85) on October 23, 1834. Her husband, a merchant and banker, was a native of Germany who was brought to New York at age ten. This portrait was a gift to the Society from the granddaughter and great-granddaughters of Mrs. Schuchardt.
