Wrought and cast silver porringer with cover; circular, shallow bowl, with sides curved-out from a flat base, and back to an everted lip; cast, applied handle with pierced geometric shapes; handle engraved, "H R" in bright-cut script; stepped, domed cover, flat at the center to support a cast, dog finial; maker's mark stamped on the base.
This porringer belonged to New York statesman Henry Remsen (1762-1843). Garret Forbes, the maker, was one of three silversmith sons of William Garret Forbes, whose work is widely represented in the Society's collection.
