A beige pinback button printed with a state seal, crest, symbol or motto from U.S. states and territories; marked "New Mexico", with a scene of two eagles, one with a snake in its beak, one holding arrows and an olive branch, over "MDCCCL", and a red banner in Latin "Crescit Eundo". Part of a series of pre-World War I United States state buttons; some of the region names are no longer current. The reverse is printed "Sweet Caporal Cigarette", indicating that this button was part of a series of collectible premiums given by tobacco and gum manufacturers.
