Oval section from the center of a flag carried by the 4th New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry in 47 Civil War battles dating from December 2, 1861, to December 24, 1864; fragment has "4th" painted in gold on a red background with gold border, and is mounted on buff-colored paper with handwritten inscription and framed.
