New-York Historical is temporarily closed to help contain the spread of COVID-19. On August 14, we're opening Hope Wanted: New York City Under Quarantine, a free, outdoor exhibition in our rear courtyard. See more details on our Visit page.
This giant red white and blue pencil advertises baking soda. It reads on alternating faces " 'Arm & Hammer' For Ever/ 'Great Soda'/ America For Ever/
Freedom For Ever". Possibly from the World War II era. On the back end of the pencil is a metal stamp with the Arm & Hammer symbol and "Church & Co. Soda" embossed.
Gift of Bella C. Landauer
