Mary Frances Cater of Boston was married to Pierre Lorillard Ronalds in 1859. The were separated in 1867, but a divorce was never decreed. Mrs. Ronalds lived in London after 1870, where she was a close friend of the deposed Napoleon III. By the time of her husband's death, in 1905, she was at the very center of London society.
