Mary Ann Karrick, daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Ord) Karrick of Philadelphia, was the second wife of Elisha Riggs, dry goods merchant and banker of Georgetown, District of Columbia, and partner of George Peabody. She was the step-mother of George Washington Riggs, founder of the Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C., and the mother of William Henry Riggs whose famous collection of medieval armor and art was given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
