Copper struck souvenir medal with obverse showing image of train flanked by dates: "1847" and "1947"; legend: "MONTREAL & LACHINE/RAILROAD COMPANY." Reverse depicts beaver beneath tree with legend above: "THIRD CLASS." Circular hole pierced at center.
Gallery Label: 
The Montreal and Lachine Railroad, linking the Bonaventure Station in Montreal and the St. Lawrence River, began operations in 1847. It merged with the Lake St. Louise and Province Railway in 1850, later amalgamated with the Champlain and Saint Lawrence Railroad, and was eventually absorbed by the Grand Trunk Railway.
