Description:
Two conjoined metal pieces; according to the label affixed to one, these are pieces of the ironclad vessel, U.S. S. Monitor, which defeated the Confederate vessel Merrimac in 1862.

According to documentation in the Naval History Society records, this piece and three others were donated in 1921 by Harry Lydenberg, New York Public Library.
