Bronze struck medal with obverse showing undraped bust of female with four stars and hair band; legend above: "LIGHT, LIBERTY, LAW." Reverse with legend: "THE NEW YORK FREE ACADEMY/COLLEGE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK"; inscription: "WAS FOUNDED,/1847,/BY ACT OF THE LEGISLATURE/AND/VOTE OF THE CITIZENS;/AND/ITS NAME WAS CHANGED,/1866,/BY ACT TAKING EFFECT/MAY 1, TO." Cream-colored square cardboard case.
