Bronze struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of Native American facing right with legend: "SYRACUSE NY MAY 1718/1899." Reverse shows shield with landscape surmounted by eagle and flanked by female allegorical figures, with scroll inscribed: "EXCELSIOR" underneath; legend: "DEPARTMENT ENCAMPMENT/GAR."
