Bronze struck medal with obverse having three roundels with scroll dated "1842/1942"; top roundel with eagle is inscribed: "FOUNDED APR.22/1842"; legend: "THE PHILHARMONIC-SYMPHONY SOCIETY/CITY OF NEW YORK"; roundel at lower left is dated "1842", surrounding legend: "PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY/CITY OF NEW YORK"; rounded at lower right is dated "1879," surrounding legend: "THE SYMPHONY SOCIETY OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK." Reverse bears inscription on scroll with olive branch behind: "COMMEMORATING THE/ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY/OF THE FOUNDING OF THE/PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY 1842/CONSOLIDATED WITH THE/SYMPHONY SOCIETY IN 1928."
