Description:
Brass struck medal set into bronze circular frame with laurel leaf pattern. Obverse shows right front-facing bust-length portrait of Dewey; legend: "NEW YORK WELCOMES/ THE HERO/ SEPT/ 28-30/ 1899". Reverse shows battleship at sea; legend: "DEWEY'S FLAG-SHIP"; in exerg.: "OLYMPIA/ 5,800 TONS". Hole punched at top.
