Description:
Bronze struck medal with obverse showing eagle atop anchor with laurel and oak leaves at bottom; legend: "UNITED STATES NAVY/ FOR/ SERVICE". Reverse shows naval battle of Monitor and Merrimac; legend: "THE CIVIL WAR"; in exergue.: "1861-1865." Loop fused at top; medal hangs from ring in two-tone blue grosgrain ribbon affixed to covered pin back.
