Bronze struck medal with obverse showing uniformed bust of Oliver H. Perry facing right with legend: "OLIVERUS HAZARD PERRY. PRO PATRIA VICIT."; below truncation: "PRESENTED/BY THE GOVERNMENT/OF PENNSYLVANIA." Reverse shows naval battle with legend: "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY; AND THEY ARE OURS."; below exergual line: "BRITISH FLEET ON LAKE ERIE./CAPTURED SEPTEMBER 10.1813./reproduction 1880."
