Bronze struck medal with obverse showing uniformed bust of Oliver H. Perry facing right with legend: "OLIVERUS HAZARD PERRY. PRO PATRIA VICIT/PRESENTED/BY THE GOVERNMENT/OF PENNSYLVANIA." Reverse with naval battle scene with eagle flying overhead with streamer inscribed "VICTORY" in its beak; legend: "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY; AND THEY ARE OURS./REPRODUCTION 1880 [in small type at bottom center]"; inscription below exergual line: "BRITISH FLEET ON LAKE ERIE./CAPTURED SEPTEMBER 10.1813."
