Bronze struck medal with nude bust of Winfield Scott facing left with legend on a scroll above: "MAJOR GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT" with fifteen stars on each side; inscription below bust: "RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS"; legend at center below: "MARCH 9. 1848." Reverse shows vignettes of six battle scenes surrounding central view; battles are labelled: "VERA CRUZ," "CERRO GORDO," CONTRERAS," SAN ANTONIO & CHERUBISCO," "MOLINO DEL REY," and "CHAPULTEPEC"; central scene is labelled: "CITY OF MEXICO."
