Description: 
Commemorative locket in the form of a prayer book; obverse engraved with "S.J.R." inside shield shape; reverse engraved with a cross; daguerreotype photograph of David Reese Griffith in 1 interior compartment; other compartment contains braided hair of 4 relatives; hinged gold clasp; yellow jewelry box lined with black velvet and cream satin; stamped with maker's name (may not be original case).
Gallery Label: 
A note attached to the accession notes identifies the man in the photograph as David Reese Griffith (1826-1902), the father of the donor. The donor further identifies the hair as that of David Richardson (1784-1854)--the donor's grandfather; Mary Coleman Richardson (1790-1854)--the donor's grandmother; Martha Richardson--the donor's aunt; and Sarah Jane Richardson Griffith (1835-1929)--the donor's mother. David Griffith gave the locket to Sarah J.R. Griffith after her parents died in 1854.
