Silver struck medal with obverse showing Howard on horseback pursuing an enemy with winged figure of Victory overhead holding laure wreath above his head; legend: "JOH.EGAR.HOWARD LEGIONIS PEDITUM PRAEFECTO"; inscription below exergual line: "COMITIA AMERICANA." Reverse bears an inscription within laurel wreath: "QUOD/IN NUTANDEM HOSTIUM ACIEM/SUBITO IRRUENS/PRAECLARUM BELLICAE VIRTUTIS/SPECIMEN DEDIT/IN PUGNA AD COWPENS/XVII.JAN.MDCCLXXXI"
