Leigh Hunt (1858-1937)

A native of Galena, Illinois, Hunt distinguished himself as an etcher, teacher, lecturer, and author. He graduated from City College of New York in 1877, having majored in art. He enrolled at the Bellevue Medical School to study anatomy and actually obtained an M.D. degree in 1880 but did not practice medicine. Rather, in 1890 he joined the faculty of City College as an instructor in art. When he retired in 1928 he was a full professor and chairman of the dept. of fine arts of that institution.
