Description: 
Iron key; cylindrical shaft with encircling bands and partial circular grip at top, and rectangular pad at bottom.
Gallery Label: 
According to the donor, this key, and associated padlock, was used in the "Long Room" at the Bridewell Prison in New York City. The "Long Room" was famous for housing the 'common' or lower class prisoners, while the upper class prisoners were kept on the second floor, in nicer quarters.
