The 8 digit adder registers up to $999,999.99 and resembles a tobacco tin with a black enamel finish with gold striping and numbers. It is marked on the edge in gold "The Bassett Adder, Patents Pending" and on the back "Manufactured only by J.H. Bassett & Co., Chicago, ILL. USA". It is operated by placing the point of a stylus into the holes marked with gold numbers and sliding the black indicator line to the desired number. The only innovation in the simple adder is a red flag appearing in the column to the left signaling when it is necessary to carry.
