Blonde, brown and greying human hair in a white cardboard box.
This hair was accompanied by a hand written note that reads, "Part of the whiskers and hair cut from my ever to be lamented husband's face and head, on his return from his last journey to the Rocky Mountains when he was 66, or 68 years old." The note was written by Mrs. Audubon and addressed to Frederic DePeyster who was active on the part of the Society in securing the purchase of the original Audubon watercolors for "The Birds of America" for the Society.
Gift of Mrs. John James Audubon
