Bronze struck medal, with obverse showing clothed bust of George Robinson facing left with two laurel wreaths above and legend: "TO GEORGE F. ROBINSON./AWARDED BY THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES, MARCH 1.1871."; inscription at left and right of design: "FOR HIS HEROIC CONDUCT ON THE/14.DAY OF APRIL 1865, IN SAVING/THE LIFE OF THE HONORABLE/WM.H.SEWARD THEN SECRETARY/OF STATE OF THE/UNITED STATES." Reverse shows Robinson fighting off Lewis Paine who holds dagger in right hand and is attempting to kill bedridden Seward.
