Bronze struck medal with uniformed bust of Nathaniel Greene facing left with legend: "NATHANIELI GREEN EGREGIO DUCI COMITIA AMERICANA." Reverse with image of winged Victory standing upon military trophies and holding laurel wreath and palm branch; legend "SALUS REGIONUM AUSTRALIUM" and inscription below exergual line: "HOSTIBUS AD EUTAW/DEBELLATIS DIE VIII SEPT/MDCCLXXXI."

This is a cast of one of the "Comitia Americana" medals awarded by Congress to heroes of the Revolutionary War between 1776 and 1781. General Nathaniel Greene was honored by Congress in 1781, but the original gold medal was not struck until 1787. This bronze strike was made from a copy die produced by the U.S. Mint in 1886.
