Description: 
Fragment of red brick from Louisbourg Fortress.
Gallery Label: 
The French fortress at Louisbourg guarded the mouth of the St. Lawrence River in what is now Canada. The fortress was captured in 1745 by a Massachusetts force. Britain gave Louisbourg back to France in the treat of Aix-la-Chapelle (1748). In July 1758, the British won the French and Indian War by capturing the fortress at Louisbourg.
