Eight comb black painted leather fire helmet with tooled linear decoration on crown and floral vine border on brim; gilded brass eagle frontpiece holder (frontpiece missing); textile half-lining.
Gallery Label: 
This helmet belonged to the donor's father, Charles A. Childs, a member of the Veteran Fireman's Association of New York (organized 1885). Newspaper used to pad the lining of the helmet bears the date of 1886.
