Metal pin-back bar with image of American crest and leaves attached to a piece of red, white and blue ribbon with a hanging medallion at the end. Coin-shaped medallion imprinted with central portrait of a man surrounded by the text "DEPARTMENT COMMANDER/ALBERT D. SHAW". On back of medallion, central image of two soldiers shaking hands before Lady Liberty, ringed by the words "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC/1861 VETERAN 1866", and ringed again with the larger text "WITH COMPLIMENTS OF THE CITIZENS OF UTICA, N. Y.".
