Description:
One of a group of memorial cushions or ribbons, INV.4289.1-.5. Rectangular cream silk cushion printed in black; depicts vignette consisting of figure of Liberty, eagle, and oval stars and stripes shield at upper center with inscription below: "PALMER'S/Odoriferous Compound/OR/American Sweet Bag,/APPROVED AND PATRONISED/BY THE AMERICAN PUBLIC"; with four floral corner ornaments. Reverse depicts neo-classical vase on pedestal with inscription: "TO DANIEL WEBSTER/DEFENDER OF THE CONSTITUTION/OF THE UNITED STATES, PRESENTED/By CITIZENS OF BOSTON, OCT. 12 1853"; inscription beneath vase: "THE WEBSTER VASE."
