Bronze struck medal with obverse showing clothed half-length three-quarter right bust of Peter Cooper surrounded by legend: "THE COOPER UNION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE AND ART FOUNDED A D 1859 BY PETER COOPER A MECHANIC OF NEW YORK"; inscription of left and right of image: "BORN/1791//DIED/1883."
