Description: 
New York City public door knob.
Gallery Label: 
Classroom doors in New York City public schools once had brass door handles inscribed with "Public Schools, City of New York." Used for decades, the distinctive door knobs were eventually removed due to safety issues. Mr. Grumet was presented one of these door knobs when he was in charge of the State Education program for children with handicapping conditions. It now functions as the handle for this cane.
