Cane collector Lou Grumet acquired a number of antique canes related to iconic American leaders, and then broadened his collection by commissioning Vancouver yacht maker and cane carver Ivan Wilson to create a cane depicting a young Fiorello La Guardia, mayor and congressman from New York. Of Italian heritage, La Guardia was a war hero for flights in Italy during World War I, a congressman, and beloved mayor during the Great Depression.
