After Lou Grumet collected a number of antique canes of iconic historic American political figures, he commissioned Baltimore carver Pat Harris to make a figural cane of Hubert Horatio Humphrey. Humphrey was the Mayor of Minneapolis who ignited the civil rights revolution in 1948 at the Democratic convention. He went on to become the leader of the liberals in the U.S. Senate, and Vice President under Lyndon B. Johnson. This example was the second cane Grumet commissioned for his collection. Grumet had worked for Humphrey's presidential campaign in 1968.
