Gardens in Transit, an ambitious community collaboration and public art project, visually transformed New York City from September to December 2007. Through this art, education, and creative therapy project, 23,000 children in schools and hospitals painted 80,000 flowers on 750,000 square feet of adhesive panels to be featured on taxis citywide. Children involved in the project participated in civic educational sessions in which they identified, discussed, and learned about contemporary social issues affecting their communities and the world.
