Wrought silver coffee biggin on a stand; oval body with curved sides tapering in at the base and below the neck; bright-cut foliate garland with bell flower drops around the body and below two oval reserves suspended from wheel turned bow-knots; reserve to the left of the handle engraved, "L B C" in gothic script, and the reserve to the right is engraved with a lion rampant; bright-cut and wheel turned geometric band around the shoulder; vertically applied, convex gadrooned band rim; hinged, oval domed lid, flat at the sides, with a bright-cut and wheel turned geometric band around the edge; dome surmounted by a cast acorn finial; small circular hole punched in the dome besides the finial; applied, cast spout with a heart-shaped lip and foliate engraving on the top and sides; cylindrical handle-sockets with the convex bands around the edges fitted with an ivory scroll handle; oval ring stand with a bright-cut and wheel turned band around the center and four cast pad feet with reeded legs and trapezoid joints with bright-cut motifs; curved stretchers are applied to the back of the feet and attach to an inner oval ring which holds the burner; seamed oval burner with a wrought oval domed lid; reeded band applied around the rim; dome surmounted by an inverted oval finial with a hole in the center for the wick; maker's marks on the base of the coffeepot, and the sides of the burner and stand.
This coffee biggin descended to the donor through the Corse family.
