Olive drab wool Army officer's single-breasted coat; double collar and shallow lapels, "U.S." insignia at the corners of the collar, crossed rifle infantry insignia at each corner of the lapels; shoulder loops with a button at the collar end, gold leaf at the shoulder end; 4 buttons down the front; a pocket at each breast and hip, with flaps that button closed, 3 color bars above left breast pocket; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 1 band of yellow lacing around each wrist, patch on left shoulder; 2 panels at the back, skirt split below the waistline; all buttons cast with the Great Seal of the U.S.; inside lined with brown twill-weave silk.

This coat is part of a uniform worn by Major John H. Marsching when he served in the 2nd Division, A.E.F. U.S. Army, during World War I. The Society owns the other pieces to this uniform.
