Houghlin New York City oil lamp street lighter.
Gallery Label: 
This New York City cane was used both as a cane and as a device for New York City lamplighters to ignite the street lamps every evening at dusk. These hybrid canes were used throughout Manhattan in the 1880s before the widespread use of electric street lights.
