Ivory brisé fan with square-tipped sticks joined by ivory-colored silk ribbon; guards with intricate relief carving and sticks with framed pagodas, floral motifs, and central shield of solid ivory on ribbed ground.
A note accompanying this fan indicates that it was sent to the donor's great-grandmother, Maria Cooper Pillow (b. 1762), from India by her son, Edward Pillow, Jr. Mrs. Pillow eventually passed the fan to her granddaughter, Eliza Pilcher (Mrs. John V. Cox), who passed it to the donor.
