Rectangular wooden box with flat, hinged lid, brass handle at center of top, and brass keyhole surround; lithographed images cut out and applied to surface and coated with several layers of varnish (decoupage, or découpage), taking on grain of wood; images include street scene, coats of arms, bald eagles, urns, hearts, wreaths, friezes, etc.; inside, lithographed images cut out and pasted to inside of lid, and to top of lid of two compartments to side of box.
According to accession records, this box was made by Eliza Miles, one of the donor's great-grandmothers, in Albany, NY, about 1825-1830.
