Inscribed at lower center in graphite: "Please Show the Legs & feet as much as you can / through the transparency of the Water, which I should / Like you to have as in the Razor billed Auk! / You may have distant rocky shores --"
Painting ca. 1835 based on a pencil sketch made on June 26, 1826; Havell completed the compostion according to Audubon's instructions
